The fame of Balestra begun by chance: without his knowledge, in fact, some friends sent one of his drawings to a fashion brand in Milan. The sketch was so appreciated that he was immediately invited to collaborate to an Haute Couture Collection. He worked in Milan for a while, then moved to Rome where he collaborated with some of the most important fashion brands and designed costumes for the film industry. In Rome, Balestra opened his first Atelier, and that was the official beginning of his international fame.
Along his career, Renato Balestra’s collections travelled all around the world, gaining a tremendous success and a lot of awards. The Italian stylist designed personal creations for famous actresses, Princesses, Queens and First Ladies. To name a few, the empress Farah Diba, Princess of Jordan Noor Hamzah, the First Lady of Philippines Imelda Marcos and her daughter Irene, whose wedding dress bore the Balestra signature.
stylist also designed costumes for theatre plays: in 1988, he designed the
stage dresses for Rossini’s Cinderella at Belgrade’s Opera Theatre; in 1999, he
overlooked the realisation of the costumes for Strauss’ Cavaliere della Rosa
for the opening of the opera season at Teatro Verdi in Trieste; in 2009, he
created the costumes for the world tour of the musical Cinderella produced by
Moreover, between the years 1985-1986 he oversaw the designing of the Philippines Airlines and Alitalia Airlines uniforms, and in 1988 he realised the uniforms for Agip Petroleum company employees.
Throughout the years, Renato Balestra has preserved the fame and appreciation of his brand in the fashion industry, always keeping a relevant place in the most important international events of Haute Couture. In 2014 he styled a collection for Azeri government’s entourage, and in the same year he was host of the Asian Couture Federation in one of the most prominent fashion awards ceremonies held in Singapore; in 2015 he took part to the International Fashion Week in Vietnam; in 2016 he was invited to the celebration of the 6th Anniversary of Velvet Magazine in Dubai, and in 2017 he participated to the Arabian Fashion Week.
